It’s not often I’d advocate putting plastic in the ocean, but when it comes to swimwear, Naïla Collection is reworking all the rules. The New York based brand founded by Naïla Chbib in 2008 launched its latest beach and swimwear line this evening with a poolside fashion show at the newly opened Urban Lounge at InterContinental Dubai Marina.
With playsuits, beach wraps, bikinis, swimsuits and kaftans on show, the collection was inspired by Naïla’s travels around the globe. With gorgeous colours and fabrics, the pieces are perfect to take you from sunshine to sundowners.
But what I loved most were the Naïla Eco Shorts collection made from recycled PET bottles. This eco-friendly recycled polyester material is light and quick to dry. Plus, after years of use, they can even been recycled into cool stuff again after they’ve had their fun at the beach.
With eight million tons of plastic dumped in the ocean each year, it’s time we took the plunge. After all it is the little things that make a difference, and blue really is the new green.
Watch more: Planet Ocean by directors Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Michael Pitiot, along with OMEGA and with the scientific support of Tara Expeditions, captures tour remarkable oceans. Presented at Earth Summit 2012 in Rio de Janeiro (RIO+20) the documentary highlights how essential it is to live in harmony with our oceans.
